The library subscribes to many databases to support research and teaching for NLC students and faculty. These databases provide access to a wide range of scholarly articles, peer-reviewed journals, eBooks and more across various disciplines. Because the library subscribes to these databases, as faculty you are able to link any of the resources directly into your course for your students using a permalink.
A permalink is an authenticated link that takes a user directly to a resource.
All NLC users including students need to login with their regular college email address and password to access a library resource.
There are a couple ways that you can share the permalink with your students, but we recommend linking directly to the resource from the main library catalogue, also known as Discovery Search. To do this find the resource in the library catalogue, then follow the steps below.
Please note: Not all library resources are available to find in the catalogue, please see "Linking to a Library Resource Directly From a Database" on the right-hand side for more information.
In the case that an item isn't available through the library catalogue, or that you would prefer to link it directly from the database, please see the following how-to document below for further help.
If you are linking to a book that is available through Canada Commons, we recommend to directly link it from the database. These books are available in the catalogue, but unfortunately there are sometimes technical issues with Canada Commons and the library catalogue.
If you have any questions or need further assistance linking a resource, please reach out to the NLC Library.
